Dr. Gary Skeen  

Associate Director, Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity 

Dr. Gary Skeen is the Associate Director of the Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity at Old Dominion University. Now in his 14th year as a Virginia educator, he has a distinguished background in music education, leading bands that earned Virginia Honor Band and Blue Ribbon School of Music awards. He also played a pivotal role in developing the innovative virtual learning program, the Future Learning Experience (FLEx), during his tenure as the Coordinator of Virtual Learning Programs for Hampton City Schools.  

Dr. Skeen’s research focuses on organizational responses to widespread change, with an emphasis on innovation in education. He is a member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (VASCD). Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Middle School Association (VMSA). Dr. Skeen recently earned his PhD in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University.
